Description

According to recent 2000 statistics, there are at this moment over 1.13 billion smokers worldwide, among whom 3.5 million die of lung cancer every year.  The fact is that we dont appreciate just how dangerous smoking is.  Despite the serious damage caused by smoking, the ironical situations continued that many people cannot quit easily. I was concerned by this situation, and got the inspiration for  Have a Smoke  from a chance encounter with a middle-aged man who was suffering from terminal lung cancer.  In this work I cynically represented smoking as exaggerated sex in the form of kinetic sculpture.  Also, this piece utilizes an infrared sensor so that it operates automatically whenever a viewer approaches.  It was devised to imitate human motions through a system of dynamic mechanisms using a single motor.
