TOUCH EL(Electro Luminescence) installation, Kiyoun Kim
Kiyoun Kim presents "TOUCH" series originated from her own memory of silent conversations with her friends who have difficulty in hearing. Since the valuable experience which guided her and the friends to be deeply meditated, she started to create works to share the strong feeling. In "TOUCH", the hand-shaped electro luminescence bulbs make patterns of sign language, and the twinkling hands on the wall stimulates visitors’ own memories. by Byeong Sam Jeon
Sign language can sometimes be a more powerful means of communication than speaking. When I was going through a difficult period in my life, it was the love, help and comfort of the Holy Spirit that was able to touch and heal me. Then, I shared it with my deaf friends. We never spoke words, but rather signed them. It was from this experience that I had the strong desire to share these feelings with other people. In this work, I use a single channel video with sound, as well as an EL(Electro Luminescence) installation. It illuminates a dark space and moves through this space with sign language.
