Abstract:
"dot . a scene = sinè at the sea _ tactuaL [si:gak] series #2" proposes the new media installation artworks for empirical communication design of visual information from an artistic viewpoint of computation graphic design in the social context. This project was inspired from finding the meaning of extending human senses with media art. By utilizing the interactivity of digital, it presents a new way to understand how the visually disabled may perceive the world. It gives us the experience of tactual seeing the ocean-scenery from shining dots.

Short project description:
Can we ›see‹ the world without eyes? Can we ›feel‹ the beauty of the visual information, such as types and images, with our hands? Visual communication is the most powerful means by which human beings see, feel, think and behave in a certain way. For those who can see, being unable to see is beyond imagination. But are they really not able to ›see‹ when deprived of sight?

»tactuaL [si:gak] series« is an alternative plastic answer to the question of how we can ›see‹ in a different way by touching. By making use of the interactivity of digital media, it shows how the visually impaired perceive the world. To help people understand them through this project, the author demonstrated ›seeing‹ differently by light-drawing the images over time.

The significance of this project was to give an impulse to people to having public awareness of the disposed classes in formative ways in the design area. It aims to raise the understanding of the visually disabled people who have never experienced these conditions through experiencing the touching of the tactile dots of the installation. It gives us the experience of tactual seeing the ocean-scenery from shining dots. This project also is second version of " Dreaming a Fingertip Conversation with You_tactuaL [si:gak] series" which exhibited at siggraph2007 Art Gallery. It was aided the special visual theme for making the space into the sea.
